About the Role
We are seeking an experienced System Administrator to join our team in a critical L2 Server Virtualization Support role. The ideal candidate will have 6-8 years of relevant experience and will be responsible for providing advanced support for server virtualization environments. This position involves managing, troubleshooting, and optimizing virtualized systems to ensure high availability, performance, and security within platforms like VMware and Hyper-V.
Key Responsibilities
Virtual Environment Management
Provide comprehensive support for server virtualization platforms including VMware vSphere, ESXi, and Microsoft Hyper-V
Provision, configure, and manage virtual machines (VMs) ensuring compliance with organizational performance and security standards
Monitor virtual infrastructure for capacity, performance, and stability while performing regular health checks and addressing system alerts
Troubleshooting and Incident Management
Diagnose and resolve escalated virtualization issues including VM performance problems, connectivity issues, and hypervisor-level complications
Handle incident escalations from L1 support teams, collaborating with cross-functional teams to address issues impacting virtualized environments
Conduct thorough root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement preventative measures to minimize future incidents
Performance Optimization
Optimize VM configurations (CPU, memory, storage) to align with application requirements and performance standards
Monitor resource utilization and identify opportunities for performance tuning and workload balancing within virtual clusters
Support capacity planning and scaling of virtual resources based on usage trends and future growth requirements
Patching and Maintenance
Execute updates, patches, and maintenance activities on virtual infrastructure and hypervisors to ensure security and compliance
Schedule and conduct maintenance windows with minimal disruption to business operations, coordinating effectively with IT and user teams
Documentation and Knowledge Sharing
Document common troubleshooting procedures, configurations, and best practices for virtualization environments
Create and maintain comprehensive knowledge base for support teams
Provide guidance and training to L1 support teams on standard operating procedures and troubleshooting techniques for basic virtualization issues
Required Qualifications
Experience and Technical Skills
6-8 years of relevant experience in server virtualization support
Extensive experience with server virtualization technologies, specifically VMware vSphere, ESXi, and Microsoft Hyper-V
Proficiency in VM provisioning, configuration, and management, including deep understanding of resource allocation, snapshots, and storage management
Strong familiarity with storage technologies (SAN/NAS) and networking concepts as they relate to virtual environments
Knowledge of monitoring tools for virtualization environments (e.g., VMware vRealize Operations, SolarWinds, Nagios) and hands-on experience with performance tuning
Basic scripting knowledge in PowerShell, Python or similar languages for automation of routine tasks and troubleshooting
Core Competencies
Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills for diagnosing and resolving complex virtualization issues
Excellent communication skills in English for documentation, incident resolution, and knowledge sharing
Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and handle escalated technical issues
Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high-quality documentation
Preferred Qualifications
Relevant industry certifications such as VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator
Experience with cloud virtualization platforms
Knowledge of automation and orchestration tools
Experience in enterprise-level virtualization environments
